About
My name is Lana and I am a college student at Texas A&M University. I will be starting my 5th and final year of undergrad in the fall. I just started my third internship- the current one is in New York. I am pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, but my passion is nutrition. I have learned that our bodies are amazing machines that must be nourished – they need oil, water and high-octane fuel. I believe beans, legumes, lentils, whole grains, nuts, fruits and vegetables, are the best way to fuel our bodies. I avoid trans and saturated fats, processed foods, and refined sugars. I am also known to turn un-healthy dishes into vegetarian delights.
I grew up in a very healthy household. My mom is a triathalete and my dad is a yogi. I remember always having fresh fruits and vegetables from our garden. I grew up eating a healthy diet and never thought about how food could negatively affect my well-being. I was actively involved in sports in high school and never thought twice about what I was eating. After my freshman year in college I gained the dreaded 25 pounds, thanks to all-you-can eat “American-fare” cafeterias and a lack of self-control. I became lethargic and unmotivated. Slowly but surely I worked up the courage to run. I worked my way up from ¼ mile to running a 5k. I was happy, loving life, and enjoying my renewed passion for exercise. However, during this time I was calorie-counting and living off 100-calorie snack packs and Smart Ones frozen dinners; a diet deemed “healthy” by society. I still did not feel healthy and knew I had to do something about it.
I started studying nutrition and became a vegetarian 2 ½ years ago. A wholesome diet has given me tons more energy, strengthened my immune system, left me more in tune with my bodies needs and with an overall zest for life that I did not have before. I have recovered from deprivation and have, once again, found my healthy roots and a healthy balance.
I read the latest research on nutrition and fitness in my spare time. I am also a self-proclaimed foodie. I get an exhilarating high when shopping at farmers markets and health food stores. I also watch more Food Network Channel than I’m willing to admit. My goal for this blog is to share my passion for living a wholesome lifestyle, inspire those that still struggle with food to find peace and enjoy documenting my healthy habits along the way.
I am impressed if you made it through that saga…Enjoy!!!
